Celebrating 30 Years of Fosse Park | Winter Looks 2019

If only 7-year-old me knew that 18 years down the line I’d be heading to Fosse Park to celebrate its 30th anniversary!

christmas nights out at fosse park

The weather has well and truly plummeted hasn’t it and no doubt you’re getting a little bit excited for the festive season. Whilst the kids are getting excited for their presents and for Santa Claus to arrive, I can imagine you’re all more excited for movie nights in and, of course, Christmas nights out.

If there’s anything that says countdown to Christmas it’s eating copious amounts of Christmas dinners beforehand and enjoying a glass of wine or three with friends. Well, with that means picking up a killer Christmas night out outfit, and I’m pretty sure I’ve found my go-to for 2019.

Back when I was in Leicester, I made sure I did my Winter Nights Out shop. Before I share my looks, I wanted to give a little backstory about Fosse Park and what this campaign is actually celebrating and what it means to me.

Fosse Park has always been my go-to shopping destination so to hear that they’re celebrating their 30th anniversary this year, for those that remember it was 1989 when they first opened, has got me all kinds of nostalgic. Memories of stubborn me going when I was 6 or 7 and believed Fosse Park to be some kind of play park only to get there and realise I was being lumped around clothes shopping in Addams and Tammy in BHS. Or back when I was 15 and would happily walk the hour and a bit walk from home to meet my friends and nosy around the shops before grabbing a bite to eat in McDonald’s. Or, the fact that many years later, I’ll happily fly back just to go shopping at Fosse Park, where the shopping experience is much better.

If only I could tell 7-year-old me that pressing the snake in Addams wasn’t the only highlight to Fosse Park. If only 7-year-old me appreciated just how clean, well-established and well-loved the shopping destination was, and still is. If only 7-year-old me knew that 18 years down the line I’d be heading to Fosse Park to celebrate its 30th anniversary!

Though even better still, Fosse Park is currently on its way to impress its 11million+ shoppers a year even further with its vision of creating an even bigger and better destination with more shops and food outlets in summer 2020. I can’t wait to see what shops make an appearance and find out what eateries are going to arrive. Although Fosse Park had a lovely Food Court, with Druckers being my favourite café for an afternoon tea, it didn’t have a lot of food joints, so I’m excited to see what they have in store for us.

You can imagine my delight when Fosse Park got in touch with me and told me they want me to help them celebrate their 30th anniversary this year by finding the perfect party outfit from New Look and Outfit. Sticking to £100 budget, the style challenge was set to me to find the perfect winter 2019 outfit that would make me stand out from the crowd. I knew that heading into New Look and Outfit to find pieces worthy of the bash wouldn’t be too difficult, there are so many stunning pieces, the difficult part would be choosing which one to go with!

The Faux Leather Trend is Back

I’d love to say that this was all part of a bigger plan, and maybe it was, but how perfect is it that Fosse Park opened in the ’80s and now, at the end of this decade, the 80’s fashion trends are back dominating 2019?

Well, leather is just one of the many ’80s trends that are back, alongside cycling shorts that I was sporting in Florida and oversized blazers which have been my go-to for heading to work. But, now we’re heading into colder nights and wanting to feel a little more glamourous, I opted for the leather look all from TOPSHOP, in Outfit.

If you did keep your eye on Fall Fashion Week, don’t worry if you didn’t because I did, then you’ll have seen lots of leather pieces creeping their way onto the catwalk. Now, without wanting to drop a few thousands bags on bits and pieces, I knew that when I was heading back to Leicester to do my shopping, I wanted to focus it around the catwalk looks, at a fraction of the cost and without actually wearing leather.

I absolutely love the IDOL Black Faux Leather PU Mini Skirt from TOPSHOP (£32) paired with the Black Ruched Satin Cami (£19) also from TOPSHOP. I actually love this cami so much that I’m planning to try and get my hands on the gold version when I head back to Leicester.

IMG_0256 3

It’s one of those outfits that doesn’t take much to put together but it looks like you’ve been getting ready for hours. I have wanted a pair of Doc Martens for quite some time now, so whilst I was back I went to Office Shoes, which is a few doors down in Fosse Park and picked up some of those too! Topped off with a Faux Leather Jacket, a Faux Leather Clutch Bag, silver accessories (I’m wearing my Disney x Pandora necklace and my Pandora charm bracelet), and a show-stopping red lipstick, you’re sure to look amazing at your next Christmas get together.

I love this trend as it’s one that will be timeless for me. I’ve tried to opt for clothes that can be worn time and time again and be mixed and matched with pieces I already have. I know that I can wear the faux leather skirt with lots of other tops that I already own and the cami top would look lovely paired with some jeans for a more casual “nice top and jeans” look.

The Yellow Check Trend

I don’t think there’s a style not to suit anybody at the moment. There is such a variety in the shops that it doesn’t matter if you love or hate bold colours or if you like to go big or go minimal, there’s a trend that appeases it all.

In New Look, I was on the fence whether to go daytime style and get a cute skirt, some tights, and a chunky knit jumper to pair with my doc martens, but without wanting to stray too far away from the celebration style and finding looks for a celebratory night out, I decided to steer towards the Yellow Check Trend.

I decided this would be a look that Cher Horowitz might approve of, but also be an outfit that can be worn in the day or at night depending on how you accessorised it.

The Yellow Check Trend is definitely more of a day-time or casual night-out look for me. I like that if I’m going out, I’m going all out. But sometimes, going all out is a little much. If your workplace is anything like mine and a Christmas party consists of going to a local bar and having a nice meal and a few drinks, a full-on party look might not be the option you’re looking for.

But, if you’re looking for something a little more low-key then a trip to New Look at Fosse Park could be a perfect choice.

I like the casual laidback look of the yellow trend, which also adds a tad bit of colour into the winter looks. After all, we’ll be in jumpers and coats for quite a while now, so may as well brighten it up with a touch of colour to lift our spirits. If the sun won’t shine, be the sun!

I love that over the past couple of years, the clueless inspired wardrobe has made its way back into fashion trends so I was super happy to find the Yellow Tube skirt from New Look (£9.99) paired with a Mustard Ribbed Top (£12.99) and the Cable Knit Cardigan (£25.99) to keep the chill off! Don’t forget to pick up a few pairs of tights at £4.99 each and some thick socks to go with the doc martens!

A huge Happy 30th Anniversary to Fosse Park.

Fosse Park is in the Blaby district on the Southern edge of Leicester. It is one of the biggest out of town shopping parks which boasts free parking and some of the best shops on the high-street, such as Outfit, JD Sports, New Look, Marks & Spencers, River Island, and Primark.  Find out more by heading to Fosse Park

Visiting Leicester, England

Let’s put Leicester on the tourism map.

“Cuando estás fuera de tus lugares de rutina
y has salido de la zona de confort, siempre
tiendes a buscar más ante la adversidad,
las diferencias y lo desconocido.”

When you think of a trip to England, London springs to mind. Maybe Liverpool and Manchester. Maybe even Birmingham. But, let’s put Leicester on the tourism map.

It took me to leave Leicester, to realise just how bustling and happening Leicester is. It took me to travel to open my eyes to see what’s actually around me.

Ahh, Leicester. The city of the premier league champions, yes we’re still clutching to that, The home of Richard III and Lady Jane Grey. The Greenery. The open space. The architecture. There’s so much history here and its future is looking just as interesting.

Every corner has a different style of architecture. Buildings that wouldn’t look out of place in Bath or Stratford or Prague and Budapest.

Wandering around Leicester is so different when your eyes are open. Like, really open. When you’re looking up instead of looking down at your phone. The whole city has a different vibe.

Stepping out of Gelato Village, you’re met with this spectacular building. It wouldn’t look out of place in Budapest or Prague. It reminded me of stepping out of Starbucks in Budapest.

Food and Drink

What’s one of the best things about travelling? The food! Unique flavours, varied cooking styles.

An English roast is pretty essential so is a quick stop at the chip shop.

But, why leave those worldwide cuisines in Germany or Italy, when you can have them in Leicester?

The Rutland and Derby have brought the Oktoberfest taste of Germany to Leicester and what a treat it is!

Ever heard of a Flammkuchen? Neither had I!

A Flammkuchen literally means flame cake! They are a massive hit at Christmas markets and I can see why! Originating from the South Germany and Alsace region of France the flammkuchen was originally made to test the temperature of bakers’ ovens.

Simply, the flammkuchen is a pizza. A very good one at that. Normally, when you think of pizza, you think Italy. But this crisp and fresh pizza is definitely worth a bite!

The flammkuchen is a delight for those amongst us who love a good thin and crispy pizza. Baked to perfection with crème fraîche as opposed to tomato sauce, it is a refreshing afternoon bite.

What goes with German pizza? Beer, of course!

I’m not talking any old beer, I’m talking a Maisels Weisse beer.

This cloudy deep orange beer is a real win. So refreshing and so aromatic. On first taste, the bursts of banana quench your taste buds and it’s a perfect match with a flammkuchen.

The Rutland and Derby is a beautiful red-brick pub located on Millstone Lane.

What’s for pudding, I hear you cry!
Let’s do a European tour and have Italy come to us at Gelato Village

Gelato Village is unique. It really is.

Where else can you get the authentic Italian gelato taste, without leaving the country? Ice cream just doesn’t tingle the senses like a good gelato does.

Good luck picking a flavour!

When all these flavours are jumping out at you, it’s impossible to choose a favourite. The Gelato Village staff are so incredibly helpful, from explaining how Gelato is made, to informing me about the different ingredients and flavours and how they are sourced, to giving me a little try of each to help me make my decision!

I decided on Fior di latte, milk chocolate and stracciatella. Stracciatella is a personal favourite of mine if you can bring yourself to choose! Creamy gelato filled with crunchy dark chocolate. Or, the Fior di latte, gelato in its purest form. No flavouring, no egg yolks, just pure gelato perfection. Paired with a few other flavours, it really is a complimentary flavour.

I told you, I just can’t decide. They’re all so good!

The fun doesn’t stop there though…

What do I want? Coffee. When do I want it? Now.

A trip to Italy Gelato Village isn’t complete without a coffee! This Italian coffee will give you an instant boost, that we all sometimes need! Especially after a long week…

Something Different?

Leicester has so much to offer in terms of eating and drinking. You could do an entire food guide!

For a taste of the Caribbean, head to Turtle Bay. Portuguese? Nandos is the place to go. Tapas tonight? Make your way to Barceloneta. American is more your style? TGi’s is ready! How about some fajitas from Mexico? Las Iguanas is your one! There really is a dish for everybody in Leicester.

For the ultimate shopping experience, Fosse Shopping Centre is where I head. I’m not the only one who thinks it either…

“Fosse has such easy access and free parking. The shops suit all budgets” – Joanne

“I love the free parking and the perfect range of shops. Once the shopping is finished you can pit stop in the food court!” – Amy

“I love that Fosse is near to my home, convenient and easy free parking with a wide variety of shops” – Joan

“I feel so comfortable shopping at Fosse. There is a good range of shops so it’s always so easy to find what you’re looking for!” – Kayleigh

There is a shop for everybody. Young, old, men, women and everything in between.

Parking is the bane of most people’s lives. But, with over 2,000 free parking spaces, it’s so easy and convenient. I mean, why pay to park for shopping elsewhere, when you could treat yourself to something from Primark or New Look at Fosse?

In Fosse, the cleanliness definitely doesn’t go unnoticed. The toilets smell and look clean, the shops are aesthetically pleasing.  It doesn’t look like a jumble sale in Primark, like other Primark stores elsewhere. There is a sense of pride. Whoever the cleaners are at Fosse, they’re doing well!

Fosse has shops to suit all budgets, Primark, Outfit, New Look and Next to name just a few. Good news for those of you that like to fill Pandora bracelets like me, because Pandora can also be found at Fosse!

Fancy a nibble after a tiring shop? I know I always do! Shopping is cardio, after all! The Food Court at Fosse has wonderful cafes and convenient fast foods. If a Greggs sausage roll is what you’re after or a comforting coffee from Costa, then you’re in for a treat because they’re all there, all under one roof!

Once you step into that dining space, the hardest choice will be deciding what to eat. We know how much I love a good afternoon tea so, of course, I didn’t miss the advertisement that Druckers, the patisserie, are offering a gorgeous afternoon tea for two for just £17.50. I definitely need to check it out the next time I’m at Fosse!

Nature Trails

Spring is finally starting to make an appearance and what makes you feel better than a relaxing walk around beautiful surroundings? Plus, they’re free!

Bradgate Park

Where else can you find over 800 acres of unspoilt countryside with herds of red and fallow deer and history to interest even the less impressed amongst us?

The home of Lady Jane Grey in her childhood days, the Bradgate House, built circa 1500, the ruins are beautiful to bring history to life.

Every visit to Bradgate Park is a fantastic one, with the quaint little tea house in the middle, to soaking up the view from the top of Old John.

Your four-legged friends will love Bradgate just as much as you will!

Castle Gardens

A little peaceful green space sitting next to the Grand Union Canal.  The idyllic park is lined with flowerbeds and greenery.

Castle Gardens is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the views. It’s a gorgeous reading spot, or in my case, the perfect blog photos location!

I’ve always known Leicester was a bit of a sports champion. So, if you love sports, then Leicester is the place to go.

Sure, we’re still raving about Leicester City winning the league in the 2015-2016 season and, of course, we’re buzzing that Leicester Tigers seem to have a decent win ratio. If you’re anything like my Grandad and keep up to date with the cricket, then you’ll know that the Leicestershire County Cricket team don’t do too bad either!

But, don’t forget about the Leicester Riders basketball whilst you’re here!

Cheering on the Leicester Riders when we were back was a real treat. There is a different kind of atmosphere at a basketball game. The crowd are really into it, it gets so pumped. I think I’ve been converted into a basketball fan!

There are only a few games left in this season, so make sure you head on down and cheer on the Riders! http://www.leicesterriders.co.uk/games/

#SpringStyles at Fosse.

Step out in a whole new #SpringStyles outfit, after all, new season, new wardrobe.

Pro Tip.png

“La primavera nos recuerda que
la naturaleza no termina”

Spring has sprung, nights are getting lighter and days are getting longer. There may be a few April showers, but the sun is showing itself a little bit more, and don’t we all feel so much happier about it?

Isn’t it strange how the sun can just boost your mood? But you know what else is an instant booster? A successful shopping trip!

After a long winter, it was definitely time to ditch those dark colours and step out in a whole new #SpringStyles outfit, after all, new season, new wardrobe. That’s the rule, right?

Rule number 2: When in Leicester, one must spend time at Fosse.

Have you ever been to Fosse? There is something about it that feels so inviting and welcoming. You know the stress that comes with fighting your way through other shopping centres? Well, that just doesn’t happen here. There is space. There is no rush.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

Good news, men: you know that changing room chair? Well, how about a changing room sofa?!

Designated bag carrier

In a world full of internet shopping, that just isn’t for me. Maybe it’s because I’m impatient. If I see the clothes, I want them now.

I don’t want to wait three working days and hope the delivery service doesn’t fail me.

I don’t want to find something perfect and then have one of those internet disasters where the clothes just don’t look like the picture. I hate the waiting game.

I want my clothes now.

Filling your arms with hangers of pretty clothes and rummaging through which ones look the best. Something you just don’t get with internet shopping.

I love taking photos in the changing rooms and seeing what works and what doesn’t. You just can’t do that online.

The cleanliness. The aesthetic rails. The rows and rows of pretty clothes. Even window shopping makes you feel good inside. There aren’t many shopping centres that are as clean as Fosse. Kudos to the staff!

IMG_2228 2.jpg
Look how clean and organised Primark @ Fosse is!

Aesthetically pleasing New Look @ Fosse

Delivery costs? Parking? Why pay for parking elsewhere, when that can be an actual purchase.

I have bought sandals and make-up for the same price that I would’ve paid elsewhere to just park my car. I just love that Fosse has free parking. Plus with over 2,000 spaces there’s not a lot of fighting for a parking space!

During my time back to Leicester, I was lucky enough to spend a little lot of time at Fosse and give my wardrobe a #SpringStyles makeover.

Ditching the dark and dismal winter colours for bold and beautiful has never felt so good.

Doesn’t yellow just make you feel great? Sunshine, sunflowers, happy faces and pineapples.

There’s no surprise that yellow is associated with happiness and joy, it just radiates good vibes. Isn’t that what we all need right now?

I am absolutely loving yellow this season. Yellow was made to stand out. Let’s not fade into the background anymore. It’s time to make a head-turning statement this spring.

At Fosse, I found these beautiful trousers and cami top from New Look and I matched them with some statement earrings and comfy sandals from Primark.

The length is great. You can show off the detail to sandals without showing too much leg!

Cami top and trousers – New Look @ Fosse

If you want to add a splash of yellow to your outfit, but aren’t feeling brave enough to go all out, why not pair the yellow cami top with a pair of black jeans or a plain black top with the trousers!

Red is a beautiful colour. Passionate. Fiery.

I guess you’ve noticed that this Spring, I’m going bold.

It’s amazing how some red can just bring a once boring outfit to life. The red just pops out the screen and adds such a needed splash of colour.

I found the shoes and the bag from Primark and the cami top from New Look. Matching them with my leggings, jacket and hat has just finished off this outfit. I am loving colour splash.

Green, the colour of luck and health. Nature’s beauty is filled with greens. A beautiful neutral colour that deserves its spot in your wardrobe this Spring. It is a beauty to add to denim, white or black.

Top and Trousers – New Look @ Fosse

I found this stunning outfit from New Look and paired them with a flat sandal from Primark.

Perfect for when the weather picks up in England or a beautiful holiday piece. I’m obsessed with the quirkiness of the open feature of the cropped top.

This outfit from the Cameo Rose collection at New Look is so classy. It has a perfect fit, something I sometimes struggle with having such a petite frame!

IMG_3376 2

I am loving trousers this season. I absolutely adore the top, it’s cropped with a peep opening at the front. It’s the ultimate “me” top.

IMG_3380 2

These flowery sandals from Primark are super comfy and delicate, they just scream #SpringStyles don’t they? If there’s something I’m associating with Spring, it’s the flowers blossoming!

Little Denim Dress

So here’s the thing. We all need a denim dress in our lives. Forget LBD, I’m backing the LDD.

Denim is so wear-dated. The quality of this dress and the timeless look, I just know it’s going to be making an appearance for a few more years yet!

I told you I was loving red. Well, denim and red paired together is like a dream.

This denim dress from Miss Selfridge is absolutely gorgeous. It has a flattering fit and paired with red heels and a red bag, it’s a perfect dressy day dress.

Dress – Miss Selfridge @ Fosse

Some clothes just make you feel happy, don’t they? Normally, it takes me forever to find an outfit like that. But now, I don’t know which outfit I’m loving most. Reds, greens, yellows. There’s so much to choose from.

Floaty but Flattering

I’ve been thinking about dresses for a long time now. Since winter took its toll, I’ve been longing for the days that I could ditch the jumpers and float around in a delicate spring dress.

IMG_3480 2

I love the feminity of dresses. I love how airy they are. But, I wanted something different than the standard maxi dresses that swamp me or super short. Some days, you just want that in-between!

Cue Topshop. Topshop has really answered my prayers here. That in-between dress of my dreams! Hallelujah! It looks stunning with red too, (seeing a pattern here yet?).

IMG_3523 2

Plus ladies, if you’re going on holiday, this dress is perfect. It hardly takes up any room in your case and it’s so airy that its perfect for those hot days along the beach front.

Jumpstart with a Jumpsuit

Is there anything better than being able to wear trousers without having to find the perfect top to match?

Here’s the thing: Every woman should own a jumpsuit.

The amount of time you can save in the morning. No rummaging around for matching pieces. Just step into it, zip it up and off you go. Honestly, whoever created the jumpsuit – I love you.

They provide that little bit more coverage than the romper and no matter what body shape you are, you can find one that you will love. Plus, no chafing!

Yep, I’m a big stripe fan. This jumpsuit was a steal at £13 from Primark and paired with these killer heels, it was less than £25 for the entire outfit. You’re welcome!

The Red Heels

These red heels have been making a massive appearance of my #SpringStyles so they definitely deserved an up-close feature.

The red really pops out and they are super comfy to wear. I am normally the person moaning about blisters *photo proof of current blister*. It seems my skin just doesn’t like shoes.

But, for some unbeknown reason, these shoes have yet to blister me. Can you believe it!? Heeled shoes with no pinching or blistering!? I’m definitely not complaining.

The Key to Updating your Wardrobe

The key is to mix and match. Things that match your current clothes. Things that will be versatile with other outfits.

Confession: I wasn’t always the best at this!

Once you’re stricter with yourself, it becomes so much easier! Yes, that shirt might be cute, but does it match anything else? I was so bored of “nothing” top with jeans or leggings. It was time to ditch the boring and embrace the #SpringStyles!

Wouldn’t you rather have five beautiful finished off outfits than one hundred nothing tops that kinda go with jeans and leggings?

I have really stepped out of my comfort zone with these outfits, and I couldn’t be happier. Plus, the bank won’t hate you for it either! I had the ultimate #SpringStyles shopping spree all for less than £170!

New Look and Outfit were my go-to for statement pieces and outfits, whereas Primark gave me those finishing touches, at such great prices too.

Can you believe all of this was less than £170?!

New Look at Fosse was my absolute favourite for picking up the core elements to my outfits. The quality is better than other high street stores but without the chunkier price tag.

Outfit at Fosse was great to pick up timeless pieces, like the denim dress. It has such a beautiful fit, even other customers in the changing rooms were complimenting it when I gave it a twirl!

Psst Students… you also get discount in New Look and Outfit!

With Miss Selfridge, Topshop, Dorothy Perkins and more all under one roof, you really are spoilt for choice in there. Plus, the changing rooms are a dream. Plus, whilst the men are waiting outside, they don’t even notice how long you’re in the changing room for… no moaning means more time for shopping, am I right ladies?

Coffee Time?

Now, I don’t know about anybody else, but shopping is tiring work, right?

The Food Court at Fosse is well maintained and has a wide array of cafes and fast food outlets to please even the stubbornest amongst us.

The aesthetically pleasing decor, the comfy seats and the large capacity equates to speedy service and comfortable dining. It was perfect for a little break between shopping!

Hello Spring, See you later, Fosse!

Favourite shop at Fosse: How can I choose?! Everything brings something different, for jewellery I run to Pandora. For a timeless, statement outfit I head to Outfit, for accessories and passing trends it’s definitely a trip to Primark. But, my favourite for clothes would have to be New Look.

Favourite colour of this season:
It’s a coin flip between green and red. But, I’m loving red!

Favourite thing about Fosse: I love the outdoor, American outlet feel. I love how the shops themselves are all on one level. It gives ease of access to wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Favourite place to eat in the Food Court: I love a Costa Coffee paired with a sausage roll from Greggs. Though, I did notice that Druckers Cafe was advertising an afternoon tea, for £17.50, which looks right up my street! *note to self to book next time I’m at Fosse*

Favourite piece from this trip: I love the green. It’s something I haven’t worn before, I love the tropical vibes. The straight-leg trousers have pockets too! It’s so bold, chic and comfy!

Favourite #SpringStyles: I love dresses and every year I’m desperate to float around in one. But this year, I’m a big supporter of trousers, they can be dressed up and down with the switch of an accessory. They keep you cool in the hot weather, they’re lightweight so they’re perfect for taking on holiday. They look chic. There are so many different styles to choose from. Cropped, flared, straight, they’re all so lovely!

Find Fosse just off the M1 junction 21. Open seven days a week and late on weeknights!
